Abstract

335,486. Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd., (Assignees Baudry, R. A.). Jan. 10, 1929, [Convention date]. Yokes ; mounting rotors. - In rotors for dynamo-electric machines, flywheels, &c. comprising a spider carrying a relatively heavy rim wherein large centrifugal forces are set up upon rotation, the rim is connected to the spider by plates having their ends secured to the inner periphery of the rim, and an intermediate portion secured to the spider. The plates are rigid circumferentially but slightly flexible radially to relieve the spider of stresses due to centrifugal force. The rim mav be mounted to exert radial compressive forces on the spider when not rotating. In the construction, Fig. 1, a rim 1 carrying pole pieces 2 is secured to the arms 3 by plates 4 welded to the rim by welds 5 and to the arms by welds 8. The arms are of H-section and have their outer ends tapered. The plates are recessed for bolts 10 which secure the pole pieces. In the rotor, Figs. 3 and 4, the hub 11 comprises cylindrical parts 12, 13 with flanges 15, 16 secured to the H-section arms 17. Gusset plates are welded between adjacent arms the outer ends of which are secured by welding and bolts to rings 21. Plates 25 with bevelled edges 26 are welded to the webs 27 and rings 21, 33. The plates 25 engage dove-tail tabs 36 in the laminated rim 35 which consists of punchings held together by bolts 38. Dovetailed joints secure pole pieces 42. Short H- section pieces support the plates 25 between the spider arms. In assembling the rotor, the rim is heated, and the spider arms 17 are cold packed. Wedges 48, Fig. 7, are inserted between the rim 35 and the connecting-plates 25. When cold, the spider arms are under compression which opposes the centrifugal forces.
