Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A pressure actuated valve device particularly applicable for use in connection with regulating systems for air and gas compressors and of the type comprising a double-faced cylindrical valve adapted to work between inlet and exhaust seats to control the supply and discharge to and from a port situated between them has the contact area of the exhaust valve of greater area than that of the inlet valve. The Figure shows the application of the device to the control of the unloading mechanism of an air compressor. The inlet valves K of the compressor B are adapted to be held in the open position by spiders L actuated by plungers P subject to receiver pressure under the control of the valve W. The valve W, which is adjustably loaded by a spring g bearing against a collar k on a spindle f having a pointed end bearing against a block r in a recess in the valve, has oppositely directed faces T, U adapted to co-operate with seat openings R, S. 'The chamber u above the opening R is connected by a pipe t with the receiver H, while the chamber below the opening S is connected to atmosphere through the clearance o between the spindle f and loading adjusting screw h. In the event of the pressure exceeding the desired maximum, the face T lifts from its seat and allows' receiver pressure to pass by way of a restricted passage w in the surface of the valve, chamber c, and pipe c to the cylinders below the unloading plungers. When pressure is sufficiently reduced, the face T reseats and the face U lifts, allowing air to pass to atmosphere through chamber c, passage r, and clearance o. The seat S is formed on a member b screwed into the casing and adjusted in position by washers Z.
