Abstract

334,217. British Celanese, Ltd., and Miller, B. E. M. May 29, 1929. 2, 4, 6-Tribromaniline and its acidyl derivatives. - Pure 2, 4, 6-tribromaniline is prepared by subjecting the crude material to sublimation, preferably at a temperature of 160‹-165‹ C. By the action of acidylating agents such as acetyl chloride or other acetyl halide, or acetic anhydride, acidyl-2, 4, 6-tribromanilides are readily obtainable in substantially pure form. The preparation of 2, 4, 6-tribrommonoacetanilide and 2, 4, 6-tribromdiacetanilide are given by way of example. When incorporated in compositions of matter containing cellulose acetate or other cellulose derivatives, the purified tribromdiacetanilide produces practically no discoloration, and when employed in quantities of as much as 10 per cent of the cellulose derivative, to reduce inflammability, shows no signs of freezing out even after exposure to temperatures below 0‹ C. Specification 319,073, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], is referred to.
