Delivering molten metal. - Relates to a feeder of the plunger type in which a tubular member surrounds the plunger to control the weight of the charges of glass discharged by the plunger. According to the invention, the tubular member d, Fig. 1, is formed with inner and outer walls d<1>, d<2> respectively, which are joined at their bases, leaving a space d<4> between the walls into which the flames of the burners for maintaining the temperature of the glass around the plunger are projected. The glass is thus heated by radiation from the hot walls d<1>, d<2> and contamination of the glass by the heating-flames is presented. The feeding device is arranged, as usual, at the front end of a forehearth a which receives molten glass from a tank furnace b. The glass flows to the plunger through a central channel which can be closed by a plunger or gate f the position of which can be adjusted to regulate the flow. The outer wall d<2> of the member d may extend around the front half only, and in this case, the glass flows to the front of the forehearth through two channels along its sides, each channel being provided with an adjustable gate. The supports of the member d are mounted on a screw in order that the height of the member above the floor of the forehearth may be adjusted. The screw also enables the member to be raised out of the forehearth and swung to one side when replacement or repair is necessary.
