Abstract

333,833. Junkers, H. Dec. 10, 1928, [Convention date]. Planes, construction of. - Aircraft supporting surfaces of the type consisting of an internal framework enclosed by a sheathing of corrugated metal so arranged that the corrugation run in a fore and aft direction in the line of flight, are modified in that non-corrugated sheet covering is used for the major portion of the upper part of the surface and for portions, such as the wing tip, of the lower part as are not highly stressed. Those portions of the upper surface which require reinforcement such as the leading edge and walkways have corrugated sheet-metal covering. Fig. 1 illustrates a cross-section of a wing having an internal structure composed of booms 1, diagonal struts 2 and profile ribs 3; the upper surface is covered by plain sheets 5 secured to the booms 1 and to the ribs 3 whilst the lower surface is constituted by a corrugated sheet 4 secured directly to the lower booms 1 and forming a crosstie between them.
