Abstract
332,963. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. April 30, 1929. Divided on and addition to 310,816, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 1, 1929. Coumarone and indene resins.-In the production of synthetic resins by treating crude solvent naphtha with borofluoro fatty acids as described in the parent Specification, analogous compounds of boron fluoride with hydroxy-acids such as lactic acid or with unsaturated acids such as oleic acid are employed. These complex acids may be produced as described in Specification 316,987. In the examples, crude solvent naphtha free from bases and phenol but containing, indene is heated to 50‹ C. with cresol and borofluoro-oleic acid is added, the mixture being heated at 50-60‹ C. with stirring, diluted with benzene, heated at 80-100‹ C. with quicklime or barium oxide with stirring, filtered, and the unresinified portion distilled off in a vacuum, the product being a light resin soluble in polymerized oil; (2) the naphtha employed in the previous example is heated with borofluoro lactic acid at 50-60‹ C and further treated as in the previous example, the product being a resin soluble in solvent naphtha, turpentine, and turpentine substitutes.
