Abstract

331,576. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., and Sandeman, E. K. April 5, 1929. Telephone systems .-Distortion arising from the fact that the various frequency components of telephone currents are retarded in a loaded line to different extents, is corrected by dividing the message, after it has traversed half the length of the line (or section) into a number of elements which are inverted in time by means of the device, shown which comprises a rotating disc carrying magnets 31 fed in succession with the line currents and influencing a steel tape 34 travelling in the same direction as the pole tips but at half their speed, transmitting the inverted elements over the remainder of the line (or section) and then re-inverting them by means of similar apparatus. Alternatively the inversion may be done at the receiving end of the line (or - section), the inverted elements being passed through a network 8 having the same shape of time delay-frequency curve as the line but in general smaller absolute values of delay.
