Abstract
330,774. Fortune, R. O., and Cross, P. H. June 17, 1929. Optical-projection apparatus.-Apparatus for the step-by-step progression of a film through an optical lantern, so as to allow an interval between movements sufficiently long for the inspection of each picture, comprises a disc 29 rotated by a motor 24 and having a notch 30 which is engaged by a rod 34 forming the armature of electromagnets 31, 32. The rod 34 controls a switch 38 in the motor circuit. The magnets 31, 32 are in series with the secondary winding of a step-down transformer T, and their circuit is made at intervals by a clochcontrolled switch. Energizing of the magnets 31, 32 withdraws the rod 34 from the notch 30 and closes the switch 38 to start the motor 24 and rotate through gearing both the disc 29 and a film advancing toothed wheel 48. The rotation continues till the notch 30 comes round and allows the rod 34 to enter under the action of a spring 35. The lantern consists of a casing 10 having a screen 12 at one end, the objective 15 being adjustably held in the apex of a conical reflector 14. A frusto-conical member 22 directs light from the lamp 23 on the film 20. The device may be used for advertising, announcing, or as a station indicator on a vehicle. When employed as a station indicator, the clock is replaced by contact switches along the track.
