Abstract

330,360. Tiptaft, Ltd., and Morgan, E. M. April 24, 1929. Ornamenting.-A plaque or panel having the sheen and decorative appearance usually obtained by the use of butterf1y wings and adapted to be framed to form a picture or to be employed in the ornamentation of various articles, such as trinket boxes or cases, cigarette boxes, toilet brush and mirror backs, or the tops or stoppers of scent and pomade bottles, is made by employing, as a backing for a transparent sheet provided with a design, a sheet of metal foil having a highly ref1ective surface formed with scorings or indentations of varying degrees of fineness and depth in imitation of the veins on butterfly wings. As shown applied to the cap 7 of a powder bowl, a picture or design is painted on a disc 3 of non-inflammable celluloid, parts of the disc being left clear, the disc 3 is superimposed on a sheet 4 of tin foil fixed to a backing 5 of cardboard reinforced by a convex metal disc 6, the whole assemblage being p1aced on the upper portion of the cap and secured by spinning over the upper edge thereof. The impressions may be produced on the foil by applying it to a suitablyengraved die and passing a brush thereover or otherwise lightly pressing the foil against the die.
