Abstract

329,990. Suter, E. F. Nov. 30, 1928. Addition to 288,656. Air douches.-An improvement in or modification of hair-drying apparatus described in the parent Specification comprises means whereby air introduced into a closed helmet is passed into the hair at the edges of the helmet and after traversing the hair passes away by an outlet. Various improvements are made in the helmet and it is stated the apparatus is also applicable for treatment of the hair by gas or air impregnated with chemical or like substances having curative properties. The helmet comprises outer and inner walls 1, 2 spaced by bolts 3 so that heated air may flow between. A preferably continuous annular orifice 4 at the margin of the hair directs the air inwardly and rearwardly. The front part 5 at the helmet is adjustable for size and is preferably detachable being held by clips 8 engaging flanges 6, 7. A flexible closure 9 of rubber sheet &c. prevents escape of air round the head. The drying air may be forced on draught or actuated by partial vacuum. Heated air is supplied by pipes 11, 12 at upper and lower parts of the helmet from a flexible supply pipe 14. Adjustable dampers 15, 16 are provided in the air ducts. Moisture laden air is withdrawn by a pipe 19. Resilient means comprising helical springs 21 and pads 22 are arranged in the lower part of the helmet for the head to rest on. The helmet is adjustably supported on a U-shaped bracket. 24 mounted on a rod 25 preferably longitudinallv slidable and rotatable in a, suitablestandard. The helmet is free to rotate in the bracket 24 on trunnions 26. A bearing member 27 is segmental in form and at its outer margin is provided with an arcuate series of elongated projections 30 extending above the surface of the member 27. The side of the bracket 24 has an elongated slot 32 in which is a pin 33 with a handle 34 adapted to slide to adjust the position of the helmet.
