Teeth, artificial.-Backing plates 3 for artificial teeth 8 are formed on the side remote from the teeth with longitudinal ribs 10 which serve to prevent gravitational flow of the solder 6 when connecting a series of such backings to form a bridge as in Fig. 1, and serve also to gauge the uniform application of the solder. Each plate 3 may be formed with one or more ribs which may be soldered or otherwise secured thereto, or formed integral therewith, as in Fig. 9, and may be straight or curved, may be inclined to the longitudinal axis of the plate 3, or may be each constituted by a series of separate protuberances 13, as in Fig. 12. The solder may be applied so as to form slight depressions 12, Fig. 5, between the ribs 10. The porcelain teeth are formed with grooves 9 engaging tongues 7 on the labial sides of the backing plates.
