Abstract

Cultivators, ploughs, &c. with adjustable tool frames; multiple-tool machines; tools, mounting yielding- ly.-In a cultivator or other soilworking implement the several tines or soil-working tools of the implement, or the several tines or tools of a set, are mounted so as to be independently movable and are so interconnected that if any one tends to be raised, or is raised, by an obstruction it causes the others to be maintained in the ground, forced further into it, or moved forward in it. The tines 1, 4, Figs. 1 and 2, may be pivotally mounted in staggered relation on two tubes or rods 2, 5. The front tines 1 are provided with upwardly projecting arms 10 and the rear tines 4 with downwardly projecting arms 12. Pulleys 9, 11 are hooked to the two sets of arms 10, 12 and a single cable or chain 7 is passed around the pulleys as shown, the ends of the cable being fastened to the frame 3. In implements having tines behind the wheels, the cable may be passed around pulleys attached to their arms, or the ends of the cable may be attached to the arms. Means be provided for tensioning the cable or locking the tines when the latter are raised for travelling. The tines of each row may be interconnected independently of those of the other row, two cables being employed. The front cable passes alternately around the pulleys 9 and pulleys fixed between each pair of tines 1, and the rear cable around the pulleys 11 and pulleys between the tines 4. In a modification, the cable 7 is replaced by links pivotally connected to bars or rails pivoted on the arms 10, 12. In another modification, cultivating or ploughing implememts may be attached to auxiliary frames 17, Fig. 4, carried by sliding plates 18, cables 7 passing alternately over pulleys 19 on the plates 18 and pulleys 20 on the frame 3. In a multiple-furrow plough, the shares are carried by pivoted bars carrying depending arms, and the cable passes alternately over pulleys on the depending arms and pulleys on the frame.
