Abstract
329,076. Stanton, E. J. March 14, 1929. Sale apparatus, specially adapted for attachment to the backs of seats &c. The coin is inserted through an aperture in the top of the casing into a slide, which can then be moved along to operate delivery-mechanism that is supported, with a magazine for the articles to be sold and a receptacle for the coins, by the front or cover of the casing. This cover 15, Figs. 4 and 6, can be readily removed from the casing 14, Fig. 3. Coin action, mechanical connection.-The coin is inserted through an aperture 24, in a plate 23, Fig. 10, into an aperture 25 in a slide 21 which can be moved on guideways between the plate 23 and a lower plate 22 by means of a knob 28. Operative motion of the slide is normally prevented by one or more pawls pivoted below the plate 22 and projecting therethrough so as to engage recesses in the bottom of the slide. But these pawls are held out of engagement by a coin in the aperture 25. The slide can then move forward to bring the coin into position so that it falls through a gap 26 in the plate 22 and is directed by a guide 27 into a coin receptacle 35, Fig. 4. A spring-controlled pawl projecting through a slot in the plate 22 and engaging a rack on the bottom of the slide ensures that the slide shall make a complete journey in either direction. Delivery mechanism.-The lowest package of a pile 43, Fig. 6, in a magazine 44 is delivered by the rocking of a frame, consisting of an upper horizontal member 47, lower horizontal members 48, 49, and levers 46 turning on pivots 45 on either side of the magazine. The member 48 normally serves to retain the lowest package, while the member 49 pushes the package when the frame is rocked, so that the package falls into the receptacle 58 for removal through the opening 59. The frame is normally held with its upper end away from the front or cover 15 of the casing by a pivoted stop 50. When the slide 21 moves forward a rod or cam 38 projecting downwards therefrom first releases the stop 50 and then pushes the frame over to effect delivery. Registering; indicators; empty machines lock. ing.-At each forward motion of the slide 21, a pawl 61, Fig. 11, carried by the rod 38 engages a ratchet wheel 60 which may be connected to an indicator outside the casing. With the emptying of the magazine a stop 65 on the wheel 60 comes into position to engage a stop 66 on the part 38 and thus prevents the return of the slide to the position in which a coin can be inserted. Rotation of the wheel 60 winds a spring, but backward rotation is prevented by a detent 62. A projecting piece is connected to the cover 15 so that when the cover is removed the projection will lift the detent 62 and allow the spring to reset the wheel 60 in its initial position.
