Abstract

Actuating by liquid pressure; single-acting bucket pumps.- In pumping apparatus for deep wells of the kind in which a liquid is reciprocated in a closed system by a pump at the surface and operates a main pump at the bottom of the well by means of a hydraulic motor connected thereto, the motor piston 5 working in a cylinder 6 carries a tube 7 which telescopes in a pipe 8 extending to the surface pump. The pressure liquid for actuating the piston 5 is reciprocated by a surface pump 9, 10 in the pipe 8, and during its downward movement, it passes through the pipe 7 into the lower end of the cylinder 6, and raises the piston 5, and its connected pump piston 2. The liquid above the piston 2 is forced up the pipe 12 and through the delivery valve 20, and the liquid above the piston 5 is forced through holes 19 into the pipe 12. During the return stroke of the piston 10, the liquid is withdrawn from below the piston 5, which then descends and effects the downstroke of the piston 2. Part of the delivery liquid passes from the pipe 12 through a pipe 11 into the cylinder 9 during the forcing stroke of the piston 10. The pump 9 is fitted with a safety valve 15.
