Gramophones and the like associated with kinematographs; driving; speed-regulating.-Apparatus for reproducing sound from disc or cylindrical records, or for recording sound, is driven by a moving-picture film at a speed proportional to the linear speed of the film. In the arrangement shown, the film 1, after passing through a projector 2, passes round and drives sprockets 3, 4, which are fixed to the spindles of gramophone turntables 5, 6. The film is itself fed by a driving sprocket 7. The turntable may have flanges 8, 9, passing between the poles of magnets 10, 11, which thus steady the rotation of the turntables. Alternatively, friction brakes may be used to prevent the turntables over-running the driving film, the film may be engaged between the sprockets 3, 4 by another sprocket coupled with the sprocket 7. The wheels 3, 4 may drive the turntables through gearing. Means may be provided whereby the film may reproduce sound recorded thereon, in addition to, or as an alternative to, the gramophones. For the purpose, the film may pass through photo-electric, sound-reproducing apparatus 14 after leaving the picture projector 2.
