Abstract

327,494. Tate, V. F. M. Jan. 30, 1929. Seed and plant protectors.-A cloche or pratector for seeds, plants, &c., consists of two sheets of glass or other material held in inverted-V formation by means of spreaders adapted to keep the bases of the sheets apart in combination with means for urging the tops together. Tubular spreaders 3, 4, are used in combination with flexible bands 5, 6 of wire &c., drawn together by one or more tension springs 7 located at the top of the sheets 1, 2. The ends of the spreaders 3, 4 are chamfered and the wires 5, 6 pass through them and through slots 8 in the sheets 1, 2. The spreaders may project slightly beyond the ends of the sheets to provide for ventilation between cloches arranged end to end; or distance pieces may be inserted between the upper edges of the sheets. The spring 7 may serve as a handle, or a separate handle may be provided. Detachable links may be provided for adjusting the tension of the bands. The spreaders may be located along the bottom edges. The may be solid and provided with eyelets for attachment of the cords or wires 5, 6. The inclined sheets 1, 2 may stand on walls of wood or glass, and the ends of the cloche may be closed by sheets of glass. The length of the cloche may be incrased by securing extra sheets in position leaning against the sheets 1, 2.
