Band brakes actuated or applied by motor stopping or controlling appliances and by springs.-In a garment press having motor means for effecting final heavy pressure after manual or power closing, means are provided to co-relate the release and application of a brake acting on the motor shaft with the starting and stopping of the motor. Manual actuation of a lever releases the brake and moves a controller for the motor from a neutral position to one of two other positions in which it completes the motor circuit for press opening or closing movement respectively, the brake being released immediately prior to the setting of the controller. After the press has been fully closed or opened the controller is automatically moved by a member driven off the motor shaft, to the neutral position for opening the motor circuit and the brake is simultaneously applied. Means requiring manual maintenance until after the press has reached safe closed position are provided for holding the motor controller in its operative closing position, but the manual maintenance mav be released after the press is safely closed and the controller will then be automatically held in its operative closing position until, after the application of the final heavy pressure, it is automatically moved to neutral position by the member driven off the motor shaft. Means are also provided to prevent movement of the manual control to press opening position after it has been operated to initiate the press closing movement. The constructional details of the machine, are identical with those described in the Specification 314,043.
