Abstract
323,422. Pearson, T. F. March 6, 1929. Controlling air supply.-A timing-device, for controlling The supply of air to the different operating-parts of an automatic glassworking machine, comprises a rotating sleeve valve adapted to control the flow of air through ports in a cylinder, and a number of masking- sleeves which are arranged between the rotary sleeve and cylinder and can be displaced angularly in order to vary the phase relationship between the passage of aid through the different ports. A worm 1<a>, secured to a driving-shaft 1, rotates the sleeve valve 3 which is contained within, and is coaxial with, a cylinder 16. The sleeve valve 3 has an axial bore 4 that forms a passage leading to a main exhaust port 5, and also has a number of radial passages 6-9 that communicate with pipe connections 10-13, respectively, fitted in the wall of the cylinder. The valve 3 also has a longitudinal passage 14 in permanent connection with an air inlet 15 to the cylinder 16. Radial passages 17, 18, 19 lead from the passage 14 to pipe connections 20, 21, 22, respectively. A number of sleeves 23-26, each having a. peripheral groove 28 and a radial passage therein, fit over the sleeve valve and fill the space between it and the cylinder. Each of the sleeves is formed with worm teeth which gear with a worm on a control spindle 31. These spindles are provided with. hand wheels, and by turning any individual sleeve, the radial passage in it will be displaced relatively to the corresponding radial passage in the valve 3. Thus the time of operation of a pneumatic device connected with any of pipes 10-13, 20-22 can be altered as desired.
