Nitrogen oxy-acids, catalytic production of.- Ammonia is catalytically oxidized at temperatures below that at which decomposition of nitrites and nitrates sets in, and at a velocity as high as possible consistent with substantially complete oxidation. Suitable temperatures are 250-550‹ C. The reaction product is absorbed in a basic substance to produce nitrites and nitrates as soon as possible after leaving the catalyst and without previous cooling.
