Lift valves; sealing. - A valve cock for receptacles for compressed, liquified, or dissolved gases, for preventing fraudulent refilling comprises a casing 100, a lift valve 105 in slidable relation with a screwed element 102 which is engaged so as to rotate with a key member 103 connected by a squared connection to a hand wheel 116. In order to obtain gas from the container, the hand wheel 116, key 103. and element 102, are rotated and move axially, by screwing, away from the valve member 105. The spring 107 tends to keep the valve 105 it its seating, but the internal pressure overcomes the spring and opens the valve. 'When the container is empty, the spring 107 closes the valve, and unauthorized refilling is prevented. The refill the container, a lead concavo-convex tell-tale seal 132 secured in a groove 118 in the hand wheel 116 is first removed and a screwed plug 111 taken away. This releases the washer 109 and allows it to be forced upwards by a strong spring 108 against an abutment nut 110 on the spindle 104 connected to the valve member 105. When, therefore, the hand wheel 116 is again rotated in the opening direction, the valve member 105 moves up with the parts 102, 103, leaving the container free to be filled. A closure cap 113 with jointing washer 115 is screwed on the top of the key member 103 prior to refilling to prevent leakage. An internal guard ring 119 prevents dismounting of the valve parts. A modification is described in which the spindle 104 is in two parts screwed together and operable for refilling by a removable key plug.
