Copying-telegraphs; television.-Picture signals are recorded, preferably together with sounds, on a gramophone record at the receiving station and are subsequently used for the reproduction of pictures. In the case of a copying telegraph the transparency to be transmitted is mounted on a revolving drum (Fig. 1, not shown) which is geared to a light-interrupting disc and encloses the photo-electric cell. The resulting picturesignals are transmitted by modulated carrier waves and are recorded on a gramophone record. Sounds may simultaneously be transmitted and recorded in the same groove on the record, which may be a metallic disc or ribbon. The sound record may be laterally cut while the picturecurrent record is vertically cut. The record 24 may then be mounted for reproduction, Fig. 2, on a turn-table which is geared to a scanning disc 47, so that the picture-signals, derived from a pick-up 41, are reproduced on a screen or film 48, while the recorded sounds, derived from the pickup 49, are reproduced in a loud-speaker 53.
