Abstract
319,010. Ward Leonard Electric Co., (Assignees of Kouyoumjan, H. K.). Sept. 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Transformers.-In a transformer for supplying a load circuit 13 with current at a voltage that remains substantially constant or varies in a predetermined manner when the voltage of the supply source 8 increases or decreases, the secondary winding 11 embraces two core limbs traversed by the main flux one of which carries a winding 9 that generates a flux in opposition to the main flux while the other limb carries a winding 10 that generates a flux in the same direction as the main flux. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, the main flux is generated by a winding 6 arranged on a separate limb and connected to the supply source 8 in parallel with the windings 9, 10 which may be connected either in series with each other as shown or in parallel with each other. In an alternative arrangement, the winding 6 is connected in series with the windings 9, 10. In another arrangement, Fig. 6, the main flux is generated by a winding 6<1> embracing the limbs carrying the windings 9, 10, the load circuit 13<1> being connected across a part of the winding 6<1> as in an auto-transformer. The winding 6<1> may be connected either in parallel with the windings 9, 10 as shown, or in series therewith. In each case, a current-limiting resistance R is placed in series with the winding 6<1>. Tap connections may be provided on the secondary windings for supplying load circuits requiring different voltages. Two or more secondary windings may be provided on the core for feeding separate load circuits such as the anode and filament circuits of thermionic valves, a rectifier being associated with the anode supply winding. An exciting winding energized from the rectified current may be provided on one of the core limbs. Specification 255,688 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises a further arrangement, Fig. 5, (Cancelled), in which the coil is divided into parts 1<a>, 2a, the part 2a being of smaller cross-section and having an air gap 2<c>. Windings 6<a>, 9<a> connected in series and generating fluxes in opposite directions are provided one on each core part, the secondary winding 11<1> supplying the load circuit 13<1> being arranged to embrace both core parts.
