Abstract

318,560. Haustrup, N. J. May 2, 1928. Delivery of articles stored in separate compartments.-A coin-freed machine comprises a casing 1, Fig. 1, having a series of compartments 2 each of which has a fixed bottom 3 to support the article for sale, the article being surrounded by an inverted cylindrical member 5 made entirely or partly of glass or other transparent material. The member 5 is rotatable about a central axis 6 and has an opening 9 through which the article can be withdrawn, when the member is rotated by a, handle, 10 after being unlocked by the insertion of a coin. The members 5 project beyond the front wall 7 of the casing as shown in Fig. 3. The members 5 are normally prevented from rotation by wedge-shaped bars 17 abutting against rollers 19, 20 on vertical spacing bars 12 ,arranged in line and resting on a fixed abutment 13. The bars are prevented from moving upwards by a dog 16 engaging a locking element 15. When a coin is inserted, one of the members 5 can be rotated and the bar 17 thereon passes between its cooperating rollers 19, 20 thereby moving all the bars 12 above it upwards, while is prevents the bars 12 below it from moving. This upward movement obstructs the bars 17 of the members 5 above the one rotated, thereby preventing more than one member 5 from being rotated at a time. Coin action, with stationary coin forming abutment.-A coin 23, Fig. 5, inserted through a shoot 22 comes to rest between a, guide 25 and a screw 26 on the dog 16, the screw being adjusted according to the size of the coins used. The coin prevents the dog from engaging a notch 14 in the element 15 as this is being moved up. The coin is released when the dog strikes an inclined surface 28. Fraud, preventing; testing coins. - The coins pass from the channel 22 to a zig-zag channel 31 which prevents operation by a coin attached to a thin thread. An opening 33 in the channel 22 discharges coins of too small a diameter. The channel 22 is composed of two flaps hinged together 35, the hinged flap having an arm 39 which is actuated at each operation of the locking element 15 to open the flaps and discharge coins stopped in the testing channel. Such coins are returned to a trav 44. The distance between the flaps, when closed, is adjusted by screws to test for coins that are too thin.
