Integrating. - Apparatus for weighing a conveyed load comprises an element having a contact surface of variable width and a co-operating means arranged repeatedly to make series of contacts with the surface of variable width along a line across the width of the surface, (the position of which line longitudinally of the area is determined by the weight of the load) together with means for varying the position of the successive contacts along the line. A portion of a moving belt conveyer 5 is supported on a weighing frame 6 the movements of which are transmitted through levers 12, 9 in opposition to weighing- springs 16 and raise or lower a circuit-closing member 7 in proportion to the load on the weighing frame. The member 7 bears resiliently against a vertically-fluted drum 20 connected by gearing to a drum 21 so that the drums, which are actuated by the conveyer, rotate at different speeds. The drum 21 is provided with a contact surface 24 of variable width constructed of conducting material, the remainder of the drum surface being of insulating material. In action, the flutes of the drum 20 move the circuit-closing member 7 laterally into repeated contact with the drum 21 so as repeatedly to close an electrical circuit through the drums and through a counter indicating pounds weight on dials 30, 31, 32. The number of electrical impulses transmitted to the counter depends on the position of the circuitclosing member 7 relative to the surface 24 and is proportional to the load passing over the weighing frame. The speeds of the two drums and the spacing of the flutes on the drum 20 are arranged so that the points of contact between the element 7 and drum 21 differ during successive revolutions, thereby providing greater accuracy in the weighing operations. Indicating-mechaniem. - The weight on the weighing frame 6 at any particular time may be indicated by a beam of light thrown on to a screen 46 from a projector 45 on the weigh-beam 9 the light being reflected, by mirrors 47, 48. The projecting mechanism is adapted to project also an image of a vernier scale on to the scale 46. Permanent records, apparatus for giving. - A number of pens 34, 35, 36 are electrically connected to the dials 30, 31, 32 of the weight counter so as to mark a clockwork driven dial 33 each time one of the counter dials advances one step.
