Pick-ups, arrangement of; tool-arms and mountings.-An electromagnetic pick-up is mounted on a tubular arm swinging over the record and its armature is vibrated from the stylus through a rod extending through the arm, the annular space between the rod and tube being filled with sound damping material such as a mixture of glue and gelatine having a melting point above 100‹ Fah. The tubular arm 1, Fig. 1 is fixed to a housing 29 mounted on horizontal pivots on a bracket 32 capable of swinging on a vertical pivot 33, and the stylus holder 13 is fixed to a rod 10 extending through the arm 1 and mounted in soft rubber bushes in end caps 2, 3, the space between the rod 10 and tube 1 being wholly filled with sounddamping material 35. The rod carries a projection 21 with a reduced section 22 and a socket to support the armature 23 which moves within a coil 25 supported on the pole-pieces of a horseshoe magnet 28. The stylus holder comprises a member 13, Fig. 6, with a small bore 14 to receive thet stylus 19 and a large bore 15 housing a spring 20 and a plunger 17 for pressing the stylus outwardly. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the arrangement eliminates needle scratch and renders the use of a condenser in a pick-up circuit unnecessary. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
