Abstract

Electric killing-appliances.-For stunning pigs and cattle for slaughter there is applied to the animal an interrupted continuous current of voltage of the order of 40-50 volts which is obtained from high-voltage lighting mains by an interrupter and a transformer or converter. This electrical apparatus is enclosed in a watertight casing, and the complete device may be transportable or it may be fixed for use on a large scale. The electrodes may consist of fabric or wool soaked in a solution of common salt, and one may be placed on the forehead by hand or by the use of elastic bands or by the aid of an insulated rod &c., and the other be placed on the spine or on the neck or connected to earth or to an electrically-conducting trap in which the animal is standing.
