Abstract
315,803. Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd., (Assignees of Brecht, W. A.). July 18, 1928, [Convention date]. Dished-disc and like springs; arrangements of springs with mountings complete in themselves.-A spring element consists of an annular disc of inwardlytapering cross-section in the radial direction and is designed for axial deflection under axial forces distributed in the regions of the inner and outer peripheries of the annulus. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, employing a series of such discs, each disc 1 is svmmetrical about a central transverse plane, and its thickness varies in proportion to the distance from the centre. The discs 1 are arranged in pairs, and are maintained in axial alignment by rings 12 fitting between radiallyprojecting flanges 11, spacing-members 13 being placed between the inner edges. The outer and inner clearance spaces 14, 15 are such that they will be closed when the compound spring is subjected to its maximum load, the engaging faces of the members 13 being bevelled to increase radial stability. Ribs 17 on the members 13 may be adapted to engage portions of the faces of the discs 1 to reduce the amount of free spring material, whereby the deflection per unit load is made progressively less as the load increases. A guide member 18 may be inserted within the spacing-members 13. The enclosed spaces between the discs 1 may be partly filled with lubricant. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the discs 1 are of dished form, and are provided on their outer edges with spaced fingers 31 adapted to interlock and maintain axial alignment. In another form, the inner edges of the discs are also provided with spaced fingers, separate spacing-members being dispensed with.
