Abstract
315,751. Hodgson, J. L., Gray, F., and Raggatt, R. B. April 17, 1928. Indicating departure from efficiency relations, -Means for indicating and recording variations from a predetermined ratio between two or more variables comprises two or more apparatus moved in accordance with variations in each of the factors, interconnecting means adapted to indicate or record the variations, and means for adjusting the ratio. As shown in Fig. 2, for determining the efficiency of a boiler from the quantity of air passing through the furnace and the steam flow from the boiler, the air flow is measured by a differential pressure device 2 and the steam flow by a mercury U-tube 20. The movements of the bell 3 due to variations in the pressure difference are transmitted to a lever 6 pivoted at 7 and connected to a link 8 the other end of which works in the arcuate slot 9 of a bell crank 10 while variations in the steam flow are transmited by a float 21 to a pivoted lever 22 connected by a link 24 to a lever 26 connected at one end to the bell crank 10 and movable in a slot 28 of a lever 29. Pivotally attached to the link 8 is one end of a link 14 the other end of which is connected to one arm 16 of a bell crank the other arm 18 of which constitutes a pointer which can be clamped in any desired position in accordance with the predetermined ratio. The lever 29 carries a pointer 31 co-operating with a scale 32 to indicate the departure from efficiency relations. The levers 6, 22 may be provided with indicating pointers co-operating with scales 36, 33 and with recording arms 37, 34, a recording arm 35 being associated also with the pointer 31.
