Abstract
315,709. Pharmagans Pharmaceutisches Institut L. W. Gans Akt.-Ges. July 16, 1928, [Convention date]. Medicines for internal use.-Hormones or their compounds, or substances containing hormones, such as are normally insoluble in oils or fats, are formed into colloidal dispersions in animal or vegetable oils or fats, for instance in butter or margarine. Additional substances, preferably lipoids such as egg yolk, may also be present. The hormone may be dispersed by treatment in a colloid mill with the oil or fat or part thereof. or may be first subdivided to colloidal dimensions, either alone or with the additional substances, and then treated with the oil or fat. It is stated that the colloidally dispersed hormones react, after some time, with the oil or fat, with formation of true solutions. The preparations are stated to be stable on keeping, and to be resistant to attack by digestive fluids and thus suitable for administration by the mouth. Hormones specified are insulin, thyroxin, adrenalin, and the active substances of the supranenal cortex and of the anterior and posterior lobes of the hypophysis. The oil or fat used, or the additional substances, or both are preferably such as to cause reflux of bile in the stomach. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers generally to solutions of hormones in oils or in oil-like substances such as glycerides of oleic acids, and states that solutions may be prepared by preliminary conversion of the hormones into salts of oleic or hydrochloric acids, or by treatment with formamide, butyramide, or bile acids or their salts. The oil-soluble compounds may be prepared in presence of the oil by using as a solvent a substance such as oleic acid. Ovarial hormones, and endocrine gland preparations in general, are referred to. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted..
