Abstract
315,481. Collingridge, F. April 18, 1928. Electrodes, moving. - In apparatus for the electrolytic recovery of metals from scrap material, the material is placed within perforated containers supported upon an insulated grid or frame which is slidably mounted upon guides within a tank or cell containing electrolyte, and is reciprocated in a horizontal direction. The perforated containers a, Fig. 3, may be supported upon a grid made of strip-metal or angle-iron which is provided upon its underside with bearing-strips c of T-section resting upon grooved rollers d which run on fixed parallel guide-rails e. The guide-rails are mounted upon insulating blocks or strips which are secured to the bottom of the tank or cells h. The supporting-grid together with the perforated containers may be reciprocated within the tank by mechanism comprising links j pivoted at each side of the gridframe and connected by plungers k passing through stuffing-boxes l to connecting-rods m upon a common crank-shaft. Electrical connection to the scrap material is made by flexible conductors p leading from an insulated bus-bar q to a vertical bar r of the supporting grid or frame, or to the baskets themselves, or to plates or forks embedded in the scrap. The cathodes may consist of sheet-iron plates hanging vertically in the tank.
