Abstract

Balls.-A meshed structure 11, Fig. 1, inter posed between the cover and core of a golf ball, consists of more flexible or yieldable material than the cover and projects up into the cover material at intervals. Fig. 11 shows a ball with a rubber-stranded core 10, a structure 11 of soft rubber and a cover 12 of balata gum. In Fig. 12 the structure consists of coarse strands 11<c> of soft rubber, or a number of threads of small diameter laid together. The cover is formed as two hemispheres 12<a>, 12b, Fig. 3, with flared edges 14 to minimise the lateral flow of material when pressure and heat are applied to the dies 15a, 15b, a minimum amount of material being squeezed off in the process. The recesses produced in the cover are offset with respect to the openings in the structure 11, and they may be similar in shape or different. Specification 160,696 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
