Fire - extinguishing by solutions; sprinklers, automatic; sprinkling apparatus, non-automatic.-In a fire-extinguishing system for aircraft or buildings, liquid is forced from containers 1 to spraying pipes 4<1> by compressed, gas from devices 8 arranged at the points to be protected and provided with both thermal and hand actuating means. A distributing device 32 may be arranged in the pipe system. The device 8 comprises a gas cartridge 27 and a stem 29 for opening it carried by a plunger 13. The latter is held in lowered, inoperative, position by a spring 15 which engages a groove 14 in it and is held in locking position by an inflammable cap 11. The plunger 13 carries a sealing washer 21. In case of fire, the cap 11 burns, releasing the spring 15, so that the plunger 13 is forced up by a spring 22. Gas now passes. by an outlet 28 and pipe 3 to the respective container 2, Fig. 4, from which it expels liquid by way of a flexible dip tube 5 with a weighted strainer 6. For hand actuation, the cap 11 can be forced off the spring 15 by a lever 17 under control of a cable 18. The pipes 3 and 4<1> near the container are sealed by discs which are ruptured by the pressure of the gas and the expelled liquid. The distributing device comprises a valve-body 32 and a cock with a series of passages. The cock is moved by a lever 34 so that any container 2 can deliver to a particular spraying pipe 4<1>. The lever 34 carries a latch plate 37 which prevents or allows the operation of one or other of the actuating levers 36 of the cables 18 in accordance with the setting of the distributing cock.
