Scavengers' carts.-A refuse collecting and transporting vehicle comprises a motor driven chassis a, a closed container b, a casing d supported on the chassis and having a delivery duct d' leading into the upper part of the container, a rotor within the casing formed as an open ended impeller arranged to form with the casing a number of radial pockets h into which refuse is introduced through an opening i in the side of the casing so that the refuse will be carried round by the impeller and discharged into the container through the duct d'. The impeller as shown is arranged with radial vanes or brushes e mounted on discs f, g and a dust bin o is adapted to discharge its contents in the shoot i. A basket screen m may be positioned as shown to arrest the larger parts of the refuse which screen may be taken out when full and replaced. If desired two or more rotors may also be superposed the lower one discharging into the upper one and the final one into the container.
