Abstract

313,788. Hubbard, H. E. July 23, 1928. Addressing and like machines; printing-surfaces.-A printing-device particularly adapted for use in addressing-machines comprises a sheet-metal frame 6 on which a number of separate printing-plates 10 - - - 12 are removably secured, one above the other, by means of retaining-devices stamped up from the frame, these devices including a locking-device consisting, as shown, of a depressable stop engaging the end of each plate, the locking-device for the middle plate 11 being arranged at the opposite side of the frame 6 to that of the plates 10, 12. An index tab 25 may be pivoted at 28 on the frame so that either of two arms 26, 27, coloured differently if required, may be swung out into an operative position : a finger 29 fixed to the tab projects through a slot 30 in the frame and engages stops 31. A second index tab 33 may be positioned in one of a row of keepers 32. The plate 10 is held in position by a bead 8 along one side of the frame, a lip 13 at one end of the plate, and a depressable stop 14 at the other end; also. at this latter end, the plate has an extension 15 engaging under a lip 15<1>. The middle plate 11 is retained by lips 17 and a stop 18, and is cut away to accommodate the extension 15. The top plate 12 is held by lips 19 and a stop 20. A record card 21 is clipped on the frame by engaging under a bead 7 and lips 22 - - 24. Specification 311,990 is referred to.
