Chasers. - The cutting-teeth 2, 6, 10 of screw chasers are made progressively narrower towards the forward end than the full width of the spaces between the finished threads so that succeeding teeth take finishing cuts on the flanks of the partially formed teeth. This narrowing of the teeth may be effected by feeding the grinding wheel y, Fig. 13, progressively deeper into the chaser x when forming the end teeth, causing the teeth 35, 36 to be set back from the axis of the work W, Fig. 2, and the spaces 41, 45 between the teeth to be progressively deeper. The tips of the cutting teeth may be cut off along straight lines or on a concave curve, preferably of parabolic form, as shown in Fig. 9.
