Abstract
311,552. Hill, H. O., and Riter-Conley Co. May 9, 1928. Posts, attachments for ; connections; aerial masts; lattice-work and open-work metal posts.-Steel towers, of the type having cross-arms with suspended insulators for supporting overhead electric lines, comprise vertical corner posts 5 cross-connected by diagonals 6. Angles 8, cross-connected by diagonals 9, are secured at the upper ends of the posts 5. Oblique members 10 at the top of the tower are adapted to form means for carrying an earth wire. Cross-arms 11, each comprising a horizontal member 12, and inclined members 13, 14 are rotatably mounted on the upper part of the tower, and, when subjected to unbalanced loading, swing in the direction of the transmission line. To mount the cross-arms, the members 13 are connected by pivot or hinge, members 18, 20, 19, 21 to the supporting members 16, 17 on the tower, the axis of rotation of the cross-arms being inclined to the vertical as shown in Fig. 2. In a modified construction, independent braced cross-arms are rotatably mounted on opposite sides of the tower, the insulator strings being dropped at spaced intervals along the cross-arm.
