Abstract
311,141. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). July 9, 1928. Electrodes.-Porous metal bodies which may he used for making electrodes for storage batteries with alkaline electrolytes are made by subjecting finely divided metals obtained by decomposition of metal carbonyls to heat or pressure or both. The heating may be effected in hydrogen or in an inert atmosphere, or, if the consolidation is effected by pressure alone, the powder may be first heated in a reducing atmosphere. Other substances, such as for increasing mechanical strength, may be incorporated with the articles. The metals may be obtained in the form of powder from their carbonyls as described in Specifications 262,938, 269,677, 281,963, [all in Class 72, Iron &c.], and 284,087, [Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &o.] ; or if the metals are obtained from their carbonyls in the form of compact pieces or lamellae, these may be ground.
