Abstract

310,107. Barnard, G., and Cotterell, E. L. Jan. 31, 1928. Conduits.-A protective cover for underground cables is provided with openings for the escape of heat generated in the cables. The cover mav consist of an inverted trough-shaped member 1, Fig. 1, provided with elongated ventilation openings 4, 5 and with tongues and grooves 3 at its end for interlocking. The cover may be provided with a rib 7, Fig. 6, at the top which will engage with recesses 8 when piled as shown. The covers may be trough-shaped and provided with flat covering plates 18, Fig. 9, or may be tubular and horizontally divided, the top and bottom members being tongued and grooved, those on the bottom being larger than those on the top members. The casings may be provided with bridge pieces to support the cables or may be provided with ridges and depressions so that the cable may take up a sinuous form to allow for expansion.
