309,869. Del Riccio, L. Aug. 17, 1927, [Convention date]. Divided on 283,136, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 5, 1928. Optical-projection apparatus; kinematograph apparatus; optical apparatus.-Kinematograph or other projection apparatus is provided with a mask having a continuously variable aperture and comprising adjustable slides having overlapping operative edges; a lens system adjustable to vary continuously the scale of the projected image may also be provided. The mask, Fig. 3, compnses two plates 53, 54, cut so as to form a rectangular aperture, and simultaneously movable along guides parallel to a diagonal of the aperture, the guides being formed in an apertured support. A rotary disc 58, having a handle 58a and cam slots 61 engaging pins 62 on the plates, may be provided for moving the plates. The mask aperture may be of any desired shape, and its shape may vary with its size; more than two slides may be used. Fig. 5 shows a projecting lens system wherein two lens combinations 73, 76 are movable along a rod 75 by means of cam slots 77a, 78<a> in members carried by a rod 79 rotatable by a band wheel 80.
