Maximum-speed indicators. - The maximum consumption of gas throughout a plurality of series of equal periods of time is shown by pointers placed alternately or successively in functioning relationship with the metering mechanism under the control of the clockwork. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a lever d pivoted at g is rocked by a clock-driven cain b to throw a pinion e into gear alternately with wheels k, k<1> provided with a pin n to drive an arm o rigid with the pointer q or q'. During say twelve hours the meter spindle through a spur wheel f and the pinion e advances the wheel k and (if the consumption is greater than during the corresponding previous 12 hours) moves the pointer q. At the end of the period the pinion e is swung over to drive the other wheel k<1> and the wheel k returns to zero position under the action of a spring r. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 5 and 6 a barrel w having a number of scales u with co-operating sliding pointers v is intermittently rotated by ratchet mechanism linked at z with the lever d. During each operative period the toothed sector k is rotated and by its arm 3 advances the adjacent pointer v along its scale. At the beginning of the next operative period the barrel is stepped by the ratchet mechanism to bring another pointer and scale into active position. The barrel has eight such scales and the. apparatus therefore serves for showing the maximum consumption for a twelve-hour period on each of eight successive days.
