Discharging, throw-off, and feeding- devices for endless-chain conveyers and elevators.-In a machine for digging and loading manure, sand, gravel, &c. comprising a portable framework carrying a digger which is moved downwards into the material under its own weight and then substantially horizontally to bring the material to a conveyer, the movements of the digger are effected by pivoting its arm on a slide block reciprocated on a guide by means of a crank, a second crank engaging the arm at pre.- determined points to lift the digger. The frame a carries a motor a<1> which, through a shaft a<2> and gearing, drives a shaft b<2>; the shaft b<2> drives the conveyer n through a chain l and also, through a clutch and a chain c, drives a shaft c<2> provided at each end with cranks e<2> by which frames h are reciprocated on slides g. Arms i<1>, carrying the digging tools i<2>, are pivoted at i to the frames h; pins f, Fig. 5, are arranged within the cranks e<2> and have heads engaging cam grooves whereby the pins are moved axially, these pins engaging rearward extensions of the arms i<1> to raise the digging tools during their forward motion and then releasing the tools which dig into the manure &c. and move the latter towards the conveyer on the return stroke. A stop limits the fall of the tools. The slides g are pivoted about the shaft c<2> and connected to an arm connected through a cable r<1> to a winch which is operated through ratchet mechanism to lower the digging apparatus between strokes; a band brake, applied by an adjustable weight u<2>, controls the winch. When the digging tools reach ground level, the driving clutch therefor is automatically disengaged. The conveyer delivers to an adjustable shoot q provided with a distributor p<2> which is oscillated by means of a connecting rod p<1> and a cam p.
