Abstract

Balls.-A casing for a football, basket ball, volley ball or other inflated ball is formed of a number of panels or sections sewn together by their edges and having a vent formed in one of the panels, and the edges of the vent are brought tightly together by the inflation of the ball and are retained by a series of hooks and eyes secured to the inside of the casing. The casing shown in Fig. 1 is formed of two panels A, B, each panel being made by sewing together two sections. An opening slit 11 terminating in small holes 14 is provided for the insertion of the usual deflated bladder. Hooks and eyes 15, 16, Fig. 8, are secured by means of fabric strips 19, 20, to the inside of the casing and when hooked together maintain the opening slit 11 in the closed position. The edges of the vent 11 are brought tightly together by the internal pressure. A flap 28 protects the bladder from injury by the hooks and eyes. The bladder is provided with a non-return valve of usual form screwing into a washer 13 secured to the interior of the casing. An orifice 12 in the casing permits access to the valve for inflation purposes.
