Abstract

Moulds; cores.-In the manufacture of chains by casting links about precast links, each connecting link is cast in a cavity 16 in a separate moulding box 1A, 1B, 1C adapted to receive and position the ends of the adjacent precast links 7. The mould has a core C formed of two identical halves to allow insertion of the precast links in holes 18, Fig. 7, therethrough. Patterns.-The pattern B, Figs. 4 and 5, is shaped at 10 to correspond with the body of the core, at 9 and 12 to form cavities for the precast and connecting links 7, 16, and to form by 14 and 15 the riser and runner. If desired in place of an ordinary precast link a swivel may be arranged to engage two adjacent moulds these being modified to correspond. The moulding-boxes are arranged in a guide-way so that they can move closer on cooling.
