Abstract
305,717. Dallyn, F. A. Nov. 11, 1927. Treating-materials; aerating. - Sewage and analogous liquids are purified by incorporating a floc which will absorb molecular oxygen supplied and release atomic oxygen to effect the adsorption of foreign substances, the coagulation of certain compounds, and the oxidation and dispersion of the organic matter. The floc is composed of iron and aluminium compounds; the hydrates of iron and aluminium occurring in many waters may be utilized. The mass is thoroughly agitated by mechanical means or compressed air to induce the maximum absorption of air. The iron compound liberates the atomic oxygen, and the aluminium compound acts concurrently to effect the adsorption, coagulation and precipitation of unoxidized substances. More oxygen and a sterilizing agent such as chlorine may also be introduced. The residue sludge may be aerated and returned to the first treatment tank. Specifications 13702/09, 20556/11 and 167,454 are referred to.
