Abstract
303,940. Knight, J. S. Oct. 27, 1927. Curtains, drawing and suspending.-A device for suspending and drawing a theatrical &c. curtain 5 consists of a pair of lazy-tongs D enclosed within a framing and operated by levers W, X connected to a non-rotatable nut U on a screwed shaft R which is preferably rotated by an electric motor T. Each alternate lower pivot of the lazy-tongs is provided with rollers F which run on longitudinal tracks B and that portion of the pivot pin between the two lazytongs carries a vertical rod G which passes through a bearing R, between the upper pivots I of the lazy-tongs, and terminates in a roller J which rums within a longitudinal guide K supported in the framing. The rods G remain vertical during movement of the lazy-tongs and are surrounded by springs L which aid the opening movement of the lazy-tongs when the linkage has been completely extended. The lower ends of the rods G are extended downwardly and provided with rollers P running between the tracks B, the curtain being secured to loops N at the end of the extensions. The screwed shaft R is carried in bearings supported in the frame and the nut U has side extensions V, upon which the links W are arranged, provided with rollers Y which run in longitudinal tracks C. The shaft R may be rotated through any suitable gearing in. stead of by an electric motor. Double curtains may be operated by providing a second pair of lazy-tongs, the shaft being provided with two nuts and screws of opposite hands, In lighter curtains a single set of lazy-tongs may be used for each curtain. When used for double curtains the tracks are arranged so that the curtains overlap at the centre. According to the Provisional Specification, movable switches may be provided to adjust and limit the movements of the curtain.
