Swivelling - joints. - The flexible conduit between the valve 10 of the train pipe 11 and the usual coupler 18 comprises a supporting member 13, an upper joint member 14 having two bends, as shown, a pipe section 15 with elbow bends at its two ends, a lower joint member 16, and a coupling member 17. The upper end of the member 13 is screwed into the valve casing 10, while the lower end thereof is provided with a cylindrical sleeve 20 into which fits a projection 21 of the joint member 14, the said members 13, 14 being held together in a swivelling manner by a yoke 25 which is bolted to a flange 23 on the member 13 and is provided with a socket 26 to receive a gudgeon pin 27 on the member 14. Fluid-tightness in the joint is secured by a gasket 29, subjected to the internal fluid pressure, which is positioned within the sleeve 20 and is held against the bevelled edge of the projection 21 by a spring 30. The cylindrical bearing elements 20, 21 and the aligned gudgeon 27 and socket 26 are arranged on an axis which is inclined downwardly and backwardly away from the lower end of the conduit, so as to facilitate movement of the parts of the conduit when coupled with the conduit on the adjacent car and to minimize the danger of breakage of the parts when uncoupled. The ends of the pipe section 15 are also coupled to the joint members 14, 16 by yokes 34, 45 with the interposition of similar spring-pressed gaskets. As regards the connection of the coupling member 17 to the member 16, the member 17 is provided with lugs 52a adapted to enter and to move freely within arcuate grooves 53 in the member 1, and disengagement of the two parts is prevented by a pin 54 which is held in a lug 55 on the member 16 and projects between the said lugs 52a. The lower end of the conduit is adapted to be supported, when not in use, by a spring 56 which is hooked to an arm 64 formed on the upper joint member 14.
