Packeting by wrapping-up.-A machine for wrapping blocks of yeast &c. comprises a feed table, a wrapping wheel provided with pockets having movable bottoms, means for moving the blocks along the feed table, a transfer member movable in an oblique path and operable to carry a block of yeast from the feed table to a position adjacent the entrance to the wrapping wheel, and a plunger co-operating with the pocket bottom to grasp the block so positioned and place it in a pocket in the wrapping wheel. The machine comprises a framing 1 in which are mounted a. main shaft 78 and second shaft 79 interconnected by chain gearing 82, and a tumbler wheel 16 driven intermittently from the main shaft 78 through an intermediate gear 85 on a shaft 86 and a Geneva stop wheel. Feeding mechanism. Blocks of yeast are fed along stationary supports 5 by a feed table 4 performing a four-way movement as shown in Fig. 12. The table is connected by parallel swing- ing links 26 to a support 27 and is yieldingly held against a stop s thereon. Swinging links 124, 126 connect the support 27 to the arms 123, 188 of bell crank levers pivoted to the main frame at 107, 119; the other arms 122, 120 of the levers being connected by a link 121. The link 126 constitutes an extension of a slotted arm 116 which is engaged by a sliding block 114 carried by the face of a cam 134 on the shaft 79, the arrangement imparting horizontal motion to the feed table 4. Simultaneously, a roller 127, on the pivot 117 of the link 126 and arm 188 of the bell crank lever 188, 120, rides on the cam 134 which thereby imparts vertical motion to the feed table 4. The table 4 feeds the blocks on to a transfer member 6 reciprocated in an oblique direction by a cam on the shaft 79, the cam engaging an arm 112 on a sleeve 9 connected to the transfer member and slidable mounted on a rod 10. A pivoted back stop 17 positions the blocks on the transfer member 6 and is pushed aside by the member as it rises to transfer the block to a position in front of a pocket 29 in the tumbler wheel 16. Simultaneously, grippers 39, mounted on a slide 38 reciprocated through a link 108 and lever 106 by a cam on the shaft 79, draw down a wrapper in front of the pocket 29. Folding mechanism. The positioned wrapper and block are thrust into the pocket 29 by a plunger 49 connected by a link 51 to a camoperated lever 55. Two diametrically opposite pockets are provided in the tumbler wheel 16, each comprising a movable bottom member 32, side folders 30 and end folders 31, the latter being slotted to accommodate pins 34 on the bottom members 32. Links 33 connect the bottom members 32 which are reciprocated in the pockets by a lever 35 actuated by a cam 87 on the shaft 78. When the block is fed in front of the pocket, the bottom member is in its outermost position and the block is engaged by a plunger 49 and held between it and the bottom member 32, the transfer member being lowered to avoid friction. As the plunger advances, a pin on the lever 35 engages one of the pins 34 to move the bottom member inwards and the wrapper is folded about three sides of the block. Simultaneously, first end folds are made, pins (not shown) creasing the wrapper to aid the folders 31. To fold the lower part of the wrapper on to the fourth side of the block, a spring-pressed blade 39 carrying a transverse bar 61<1> and supported by a cross member 61 is raised by a lever 102 actuated by a cam 102<1> on the shaft 78. The cross member 61 also carries end folders 60 which simultaneously make the second end folds. The tumbler wheel now makes a half revolution drawing the package past stationary folders 64, 58 which fold down the remaining side flap and make the third end folds, leaving only the extending portions of the last side flap unfolded. The lever 35 now thrusts the package out of the pocket, flaps 68<1> on the lever holding down the end folds, and the package passes between spring-pressed pivoted folders 70, which fold backwards the remaining flaps, on to a table 66 reciprocated by a bell crank lever 95 actuated by a cam 93 on the shaft 86. The table 66 carries a heater 75 adapted to seal the package and a cooler 76, and its reciprocation is so timed that each package brought down by the wheel 16 rubs against the end package on the table to keep the folds pressed down. The table 66 feeds the packages on to a delivery conveyer 74.
