Abstract

Wood, treating with liquids and gases. - A method of removing sap from, or staining, impregnating, or otherwise treating logs or trunks, either standing or felled, consists in making holes or cuts or both at a position between the ends of the log &c. so distributed that the whole of the cross-section of the log is covered, and introducing liquids, steam, gases or air into some or all of the holes to force out the sap, or to impregnate the wood. The holes or cuts may be of any shape, and may be made in two or more planes across the trunk, the holes in one plane registering with the uncut parts of the other plane or planes. The holes or cuts may be made so that they communicate with one another, in which case the liquid or fluid is introduced into one hole, the others being closed at the surface of the wood by stoppers.
