Abstract

301,111. Sawada, K. Aug. 26, 1927. Light, treating diseases with. - An appliance for medical treatment by sunlight comprises a tube 29 having at one end a lens for concentrating and directing the light upon the part to be treated and at the other end a screen for absorbing the heat rays comprising a glass plate marked on one or both sides with crossed lines of suitable absorbent material, e.g. water or oil solutions of metallic sulphides. The tube 29 has secured thereto a ring 38 carrying struts 36, 37 supporting a screen of opaque material 3 by the engagement of the struts with pockets therein. The appliance is so mounted as to be movable to any convenient position, the mounting comprising a stand 1 having a vertical pillar 3 on which slides a member 4, the motion being controlled by a pinion turned by a hand-wheel 7 and engaging a rack 2 on the pillar 3. The member 4 carries a cross tube 5 in which slides a bar 10 carrying a balance weight 11 at its free end. The sliding members 4, 10 are locked in any position by set screws. The bar 10 carries at its end a disc 14 upon which a disc 13 secured to a second bar 16 is movable, the discs being secured together by a set screw 14a engaging the disc 14 and passing through an arcuate slot in the disc 13. The bar 16 carries a T-shaped slide 19 which may be locked at any point along the bar and in the position shown or in inverted position by a set screw 20 engaging lower or upper longitudinal grooves 18, 17 in the bar. The vertical arm of the slide 19 is bifurcated as at 19a and provides a pivotal mounting for the tube 29. The tube 29 is rocked about its pivot by a pinion 26 engaging an arcuate rack 27 secured to the tube, and is secured in any position by a set screw 31.
