Abstract

298,424. Blome, H. Jan. 28, 1928. Chucks.-A protective device for a chuck with radially moving jaws q, Fig. 2, has movable parts which cover the inner ends 1 of the grooves for the jaws or the front 2 of said grooves, exposed when the jaws are withdrawn, or both. Three sectors a secured to the chuck body p carry guides f, Fig. 1, in which slide curved shutters g connected by a ring h adapted to be engaged by a tool for moving the shutters to close or expose the ends of the jaw grooves. Two diaphragms i are pivoted to each sector a and connected by springs k to adjacent diaphragms so that as the jaws are withdrawn they close the front of the grooves. The diaphragms are guided by slots m<1> and movement is limited by enlarged comers i<4>. The ends g<1> of the shutters are shaped to fit the diaphragms i and to prevent withdrawal of the shutters from their guides.
